Start Journaling

  • This one sounds very cliche, but journaling doesn't have to be the stereotypical “dear diary…” journey. Having a journal in times like these, is not only an excellent tool to reduce stress, it is something to look back on in a few years time - this of course considering whether you actually want to look back on the Horror Show Of 2020.

  • It is proven to be a ‘good for you’ habit that can lessen the impact of physical stressors on your health. If you wish to implement this technique into your daily routine, try establishing journaling as a pre-bedtime meditation habit to help you unwind and reduce stress. Something to consider if you are struggling to remain grounded or present during this time is that journaling actually evokes mindfulness and helps writers remain present while keeping perspective - this gives an opportunity for catharsis (process of releasing) and helps the brain regulate emotions.

  • All in all, I don't want this to sound like a load of waffle that you perceive as an ineffective resource, journaling is something that I have tried personally and it has definitely shifted my mindset into a state that allows me to remain focused and grounded. That being said, everyone's experience is different, so if you believe that journaling could help you, please give it a try during remote learning round 2.0.
