Hey, how lucky are you!

Your leaders have been kind enough to provide you with some motivational messages for your journey through remote learning 2.0...

Your leadership team is here to support you, help you and encourage you all together.

"Who would have known that we would live through remote learning again? The time has come to Round 2 of remote learning. Round 2 of defeating Coronavirus again. Round 2 of doing what we can. Round 2 of comforting our loved ones. Round 2 of being stronger.

It’s time like these where we need to take these matters into our own hands. We have all lived through this period in our lives. It's no different from last time. Remote learning has advantages and disadvantages. Whether this be sleeping in or not having to take public transport when it's packed. We just have to relive those moments we did not too long ago. No matter what you say or do, you’ve taken time to complete the work given to you before. There’s no time to complain or procrastinate. You have the ability to choose what you do. You have what it takes to get this done. This won’t last forever. As a community, as a state, as a country, we have what it takes to defeat this virus. Remote learning will soon no longer be in your education journey. This can be a one off thing. This will certainly prepare us for more times of crisis. This pain that you live through is what you can certainly overcome.

Life is unpredictable when it comes to what we do. Everyone around the world, it is not just you, has lived through this pandemic. It is sad to hear the rise in the number of cases on the news, but it’s just something we need to live through. The time is now to make people proud. The best comes from our soul, when we complete work under pressure or when we feel sad. The barrier we all need to jump together is now. We are in this together. Your friends, teachers, peers, relatives and motivators are here to support you. Everyone will continue to support you throughout those hard times. We have your back so don’t worry. Mordialloc College is a community where we all look after each other, in times of the positives and negatives. You're not alone in this. When it comes to hearing and seeing your friends, there is no better feeling than that. Despite not being able to socialise, there is always social media. It's a power platform that we can all take advantage of.

COVID-19’s objective is to get you to stop you. Nothing can stop you from you. There is a power in you during this time. The worth comes out now bigger than ever. This is you. You are sedulous. You are what people want in their lives. This will end eventually. You can achieve anything you want. You are amazing. You are phenomenal. You are brilliant. You are unstoppable. This wisdom you have will affect everyone you go around. There is no time to give up. Failure will not defeat you in any way. Keep on going, and grow to learn from it. This is the phase to success. This control of failure will help you recognise the areas of improvement. Failure makes everyone stronger. I have no doubt that we’ll come back stronger, bolder and better. Even though it may seem like this forever, we, Mordialloc College, will continue to support you through those ups and downs. It is here where we share us. This ‘us’ is our personality, achievements, emotions and qualities.

Take care of yourself. Take care of your family. Take care of what you have. You're in control of your mind. No one else can change your mind. It’s up to you to complete what you can to your personal best. Rise up with resilience each day. All you have to do is believe. The dream will come true. You are royalty. You are the power of the next generation to come. Never fear and persevere."

"Dear students in remote learning 2.0...

One of the most important things to remember whilst in the midst of remote learning is to take care of yourself. Your wellbeing is the most important thing right now, which means you need to take care of it as best as you can.

To help you out, Katie (from our school’s wellbeing team) and I have compiled a list of the top tips to deal with stress and remote learning as a whole.

  1. Lower the bar. Everyone, including your teachers, knows that this is difficult time to concentrate and complete work at the standard you were when you were physically at school. Complete all of your work to your personal best but don’t have high expectations of achieving everything you would have outside of isolation. Take the stress off of yourself, it’s a difficult time for all.

  2. Maintain the perspective that this is a really unusual situation. Before this year, teachers, parents, and students had never done this before. Despite going into remote learning earlier in the year, this is all still fairly new for all of us. Be aware of this and don’t be too hard on yourself.

  3. Reach out for help when it’s needed. Whether that be talking to a friend, getting advice or receiving extra aid from a teacher. There are also places like kids helpline, lifeline, headspace, and even our very own wellbeing in which you can entrust your issues with, knowing that it is completely confidential if you wish for it to be.

  4. Recognise the small things and everything that’s there for you. The simple things are actually really important too. Normal coping strategies, such as extracurricular activities, have been taken away. Replace that with other covid-safe activities as best as you can. Baking, painting, spending time with loved ones or even appreciating your pets more is a good place to start.

  5. Remember the basics. Make sure you are eating well, getting enough sleep, staying fit, and maintaining connections with friends and family.

If you are having a tough time, wellbeing is here for you. To contact wellbeing, you can use their email wellbeing@mc.vic.edu.au or contact one of the staff members individually.

Remember, your mental health is our main concern. Take care and good luck for round 2 of remote learning. :)"

"Dear student in remote learning 2.0,

2020 has really given us a challenge. Whether you are beginning term 3 on a screen, hoping  that your internet won’t cut out or present in school spaced apart from your peers with hand sanitiser around every corner. I am proud. Proud that you have had the strength to make it this far and successfully complete remote learning during term 2. But now it is time to really test your abilities and stay strong. Stay motivated. Stay safe. Now is the time to check in on your family and friends. Now is the time to put in that little more effort. Now is the time to be kind.

Every day may not be good... but there is something good in every day. Appreciate the little things and try out some new or old activities. For example: Start a jigsaw, learn some magic- tricks, build a fort, learn to draw, learn some new languages, make up a dance routine, play some board games, start a garden, redecorate, cook some amazing dishes, there are so many options. As we are all going to be on our devices for many continuous hours for school, taking time to let our eyes rest and brain recover is very important. Go for a walk down the street, go for a bike ride around town, go outside and stay active while we still have the ability to. Get your heart racing and your blood pumping by moving about. Most importantly take some time in your very busy schedules to relax. Breathe for a second. Ease your mind. Stay calm. And know you’ve got this.

We can take on remote learning 2.0 so smoothly if we all just keep checking in on one another and ourselves. Just know that there are so many people to talk to if things get tough; friends, family, teachers, peers, the Mordialloc well-being team, myself and others. Stay safe and stay positive!!"
