What's the difference between studying and homework?

  • The difference between studying and homework is something that is often very hard to differentiate. This is because we get caught up in poor time management.

  • Home is the work that the teacher sets you. The reason homework is set (although it may be perceived as a pain for some) is because it is very important to improve your understanding of the concepts you’re starting to learn or are currently learning. Generally if you use class time efficiently, the amount of homework you receive can be reduced exponentially. So try and get as much done as those 77 minute periods we have during school - treat yourself with Netflix after, not during or before ;)

  • Studying is when you want to extend yourself. Throughout every year leading up to year 12 it is beneficial to gradually build up a study routine so that when you finally get to year 12 you are on the ball and know exactly what to study and when to study it. This obviously ensures that you can achieve your most outstanding result - does this sound familiar? Oh yeah! Our college value ‘Personal Best’. Furthermore, studying is the extra work you do around your homework so that you can keep your skills sharp and hone your weaknesses. Try the 1|30 rule - Study for an hour and then give yourself a thirty minute break and repeat.

  • Why study?

  1. Allows for sufficient self improvement.

  2. Study is a ‘luxury of choice’, this is because you can choose the best way to study based on what feels natural to you.

  3. YOU’LL GET HIGHER MARKS!

  • Ultimately, studying is your responsibility to determine what your strengths and weaknesses are, so work out what is the best easy approach to your vulnerabilities. Also, as tough as it may seem, definitely give yourself breaks during online learning, yet in saying that, get your homework done please :)
